Prandi splitting maul

Is a maul or axe better for splitting wood?

When you have to split a large logs along its grain, the splitting maul is definitely the best tool to use. Unlike axes, the head of a splitting maul is stronger and has a small/medium blade. Usually the weight of a splitting maul starts from 2,500gr (5.50lb). Such heavy heads, combined with longer handles (usually 90 cm / 35.45 in) allow the blade to reach the trunk with greater force, the blade penetrates into wood grain, dividing perfectly the trunk.

How sharp should a splitting maul be?

As with axes, the wood splitting maul must also have a very sharp blade, so that once they reach the elastic surface of the trunk, they do not bounce. The Prandi splitting mauls are already supplied with a manually sharpened blade by our craftsmen.
